MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water is rolling out the P359-million integration of communication and automation technologies at its Calawis and Medium-Term Common Line (MTCL) Water Supply System Projects (WSSP) Phase 1.

The tech integration project will streamline operations and maintenance across these facilities, which will optimize operational efficiency in delivering water supply service to customers.

Called the Calawis-MTCL System Integration Package 7, the project features various upgrades to existing facilities in Antipolo City, namely the Lucban Pumping Station and Reservoir, and Maguey Pumping Station and Reservoir; and newly built Cabading Booster, Calawis Booster, and the Calawis Water Treatment Plant.

Since April 2022, the water company has been implementing key components of the system integration project that include installation of communication towers, utilization of microwave radio technology, and deployment of both underground and aerial fiber optic cabling.

These advanced systems will ensure effective and reliable communication across the water supply network. The system’s network elements are also equipped with sensors to monitor crucial parameters such as water pressure and flow rate, ensuring safe and efficient operations throughout the system.

Another significant feature of the project is the installation of a Central SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which will enable real-time data monitoring, integrated operations across multiple facilities, and early detection of any disruptions or issues within the water supply network.

“It is imperative to ensure that our water supply facilities are keeping up with times. Manila Water considers these technological improvements as vital ingredients to delivering quality service to our growing customer base,” Manila Water’s Communication Affairs Group Director Jeric Sevilla said.

Scheduled for completion in December 2025, the project is expected to improve the Calawis WSSP performance, ultimately benefiting over 900,000 customers in Antipolo and nearby towns.
